Alice Alishka is a hand-dyed yarn studio rooted in wool, origin, and process. We create thoughtfully dyed yarns for crafters who care not only about colour, but about where their materials come from and how they are made.
The business began in 2018 as an independent dye studio, exploring colour, technique, and collaboration. Working with premade wool bases, Alice Alishka focused on experimental dyeing methods and creative partnerships with indie pattern designers, building a small but engaged community of makers.
Over time, curiosity about the material itself grew into a deeper commitment to understanding wool at its source. This led to advanced academic work and hands-on experience with small mills across North America, learning directly about sheep breeds, fibre preparation, and the milling process. That foundation expanded further while working for an LYS, contributing to the development of a commercial yarn line produced with larger mills in South America and Africa.
These experiences shaped the next evolution of Alice Alishka: a focus on local wool-first crafting supplies made with minimally processed fibres, transparent manufacturing, and respect for both land and labour.
Alice Alishka is relaunching as a streamlined and established Canadian business, bringing together years of dye practice, fibre education, and industry experience. Moving away from primarily one-of-a-kind offerings, the studio is now developing consistent yarn lines produced in close partnership with farmers and mills within Canada. Each base is chosen intentionally, highlighting fibre type, origin, with collections designed to support a cohesive palettes.
Looking ahead, Alice Alishka is committed to building lasting relationships within the wool community—supporting local fibre systems, collaborating with designers and makers, and continuing to refine transparent, ethical production practices. The long-term vision includes opening a dedicated mill to further support regional fibre processing and ensure full stewardship of the yarn-making journey.
Alice Alishka exists to honour wool from sheep to skein—and to give crafters materials with a story they can trust.
