Loose Romanov Wool – Washed & Picked (Not Carded)
Raw Texture with Natural Contrast – Clean, Fluffy, and Ready for You to Prepare
This listing is a little different from our usual batts. Here you’ll find loose Romanov wool that has been washed and hand-picked, but not carded. The result is a clean, fluffy fleece full of natural texture and character—ideal for spinners or felters who enjoy working from an earlier stage in the process.
Romonov sheep are a rare breed!
Romanov sheep are a dual-coated breed, and this wool includes both coats:
The outer fibers are darker and more robust, adding strength and texture.
The inner coat is pale, often white, and can be exceptionally soft—micron counts for Romanov can go as low as 20, though this specific fleece has not been measured.
The combination of both coats gives this wool a unique depth and visual contrast, especially beautiful in hand-processed yarns or felting projects that embrace rustic textures. The two coats can be separated by picking out the darker coarse hairs.
