Loose Zwartbles Wool – Lightly Washed Fleece (Lanolin-Rich)
Dark, Durable & Lanolin-Rich – A Sturdy Wool with Natural Texture
This listing features partially washed Zwartbles fleeces—lightly cleaned to remove debris, but still rich with natural lanolin. The wool is fluffy and open, but not fully scoured or carded, making it ideal for spinners who enjoy working with wool in a more raw, hands-on state. The retained lanolin gives it a slightly tacky feel and is appreciated by many for the way it softens hands during spinning.
The Zwartbles breed originates in the Netherlands and is one of the few truly black wool breeds. The colour ranges from deep black - brown-black - dark grey. With a micron count of 27–32, this is a medium wool with a strong crimp and a good staple length, making it sturdy, grippy, and easy to draft for spinning.
There are two fleeces available, one is black with minimal grey and brown. The other is more grey. See the photos for a comparison of the fleece and a sample of spun yarn.
Product Details:
Partially washed (not fully scoured) – some lanolin remains
Sold loose – not carded
Natural black to brown-black shades
Sourced directly from local Dutch farms
Perfect For:
Spinners who love lanolin-rich wool
Fiber artists seeking a strong, medium wool
Felters wanting body and structure in their work
Projects like outerwear, blankets, rug yarns, or rustic textures
Please Note:
This is a raw-style fleece, with some variability in fiber texture and shade. Colours may vary slightly from what you see on your screen due to natural variation and monitor differences.
